Woody Harrelson Calls 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Visually 'Staggering'

Woody Harrelson gave "Hunger Games" fans something to get excited over, when he revealed that the visuals for the upcoming film "Catching Fire" are simply "staggering."

Harrelson, who plays Haymitch Abernathy in the series, sat down with MTV News to talk about the big-screen adaptation of "Catching Fire," the second book in the Suzanne Collins trilogy. When discussing what viewers can expect, Harrelson hinted at some amazing visuals.

"It's almost impossible to describe, it's so unusual," he told MTV of the "staggering" cinematography to come. "Even ice in the glass, even the glasses are not normal glasses. There's nothing that you've seen before. It's real original, artistic vision. I think people are going to like it."

"Catching Fire" picks up right where the first film left off, with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) embarking on a tour of the Districts as part of their victory lap, all while a rebellion starts to simmer. As victors of the previous Hunger Games, they are now entitled to a life of luxury, but everything is turned upside down when they are told about a surprise for the 75th Annual Hunger Games, known as the Quarter Quell.

Director Gary Ross, who helmed the first "Hunger Games" film, has been replaced by "Water for Elephants" director Francis Lawrence. In addition to directing "Catching Fire," Lawrence is also slated to direct the series' final two installments -- Parts 1 and 2 of "Mockingjay."

Previously, actor Toby Jones told MTV that the upcoming film will be very visually different from the first because of direction by Francis Lawrence.

"It's a very different rhythm he works at," Jones told MTV last month. "A whole different visual sense that people will be excited about. There's a whole different way of showing the film that I can't really talk about. There's a very interesting way that they're going to dramatize the Games themselves."

The cast and crew had been filming "Catching Fire" in Oahu, Hawaii, but took a break for Awards Season. Filming will resume in about two weeks. Lawrence, who is nominated for an Academy Award, told "Access Hollywood" that she will fly out to Hawaii the day after the Oscars.
